Hi! Let me introduce myself. My name is Simon, and I am the Digital Design Lead with Northern Health in Melbourne’s North. I have worked in the training and development industry, creating digital learning solutions for 20 years.
I began as a graphic artist working in print but was enticed to the online space by Macromedia Flash (RIP). Once my interest was piqued, I started designing and coding away, eventually finding my way into the training department of the Country Fire Authority, where my learning design journey began.
I’m motivated by developing and implementing the most appropriate and effective learning solutions for my organisation and clients, ONLY when it is necessary. To discover what the problem is, what’s causing it, and whether it is actually a learning issue.
I use the Adobe Creative Cloud extensively as well as other eLearning design tools such as the Articulate Suite, Captivate, Adapt and Lectora.
I analyse the perceived issue and speak with people at the coalface to gain an understanding of the challenges before undertaking any possible solution.
I have worked to develop plugins and upgrade local Moodle installations as well as Totara, Drupal, LearnForce, osTicket... and of course WordPress!
Cath Ellis runs a fantastic live YouTube channel where she invites guests to discuss what’s going on in the Learning Design industry multiple times a week.
Her mission is to help Learning Designers refine their craft by sharing new skills and showcasing new learning technology.
I was honoured to be a part of the show and showcased how we set up an Onboarding Campaign at Northern Health using Mailchimp, Beefree, Adobe XD, Google Sheets and Zapier.
In August 2019 I was lucky enough to receive the Staff Recognition Award for my work at Northern Health in Innovation.
To be recognised and appreciated for my work in trying to push the boundaries and think of new and different ways to help the staff at Northern look after their patients was a huge honour.
